QUEBEC INVESTOR

The Quebec Immigrant Investor Program (QIIP) is a pathway to Canadian permanent residence through an investment in the province of Quebec. It is the only remaining passive investment program in Canada and while this may be appealing to some applicants, the process is very comprehensive, demanding, and lengthy.  To qualify, you must:

    • Show a legally acquired net-worth of CAD $2 million
    • Make an investment of CAD $1.2 million to the province, which is government-guaranteed; the sum is returned without interest after 5 years. Alternatively, financing options are available through designated intermediaries, where you can apply with an investment of only CAD $350,000; however, this amount will not be returned to you.
    • In the past 5 years, have obtained 2 years of management or business experience in a high-level position
    • Sign a declaration of intent to reside in Quebec

Once approved by the province, you can apply for permanent residence with Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada. What makes the program attractive is that unlike other business programs, you do not need to be actively involved in a business in Canada; however, the costs are high and the annual quota is low. With several years of experience, our lawyers can properly assess your case and help you decide if the QIIP is the best option for you, also evaluating other programs which may be more effective, for example, the Provincial Nominee Program or Start-Up Visa.
